Facts about monkeys!

When I was at the age of 5 and so, I would usually get so excited over seeing a monkey especially in Batu Caves. But ever since we moved to the current house my family and I are living in, my reaction is not the same as it used to be when I was young. This is solely because about ten feet away from my back yard is a reserved forest which means there are plenty of wildlife living there and monkeys are one of them. I am so used to seeing them over the years that I can now differentiate between one monkey with another and we even have names for them. Despite having seen them for about more than ten years, it still fascinates me whenever I read facts that I never knew about them. Here are some of the facts about monkeys that you would want to know.
Firstly, monkeys are so common everywhere that they are known to live all over the world and come in various shapes, sizes and colors. As one of our closest relatives, these mammals are very intelligent and have opposable thumbs, allowing them to use tools and play games. There are more than 260 different types of monkeys. They are separated into two major categories: New World and Old World. The New World monkeys live in the Americas, while Old World monkeys live in Asia and Africa. One difference between the two categories is that Old World monkeys don't have prehensile tails whereas New World monkeys do. Old World monkeys have special pouches in their cheek where they can store food. Old World monkeys have rump pads, but New World monkeys do not. Also, Old World monkeys' nostrils are small and curved and set close together but most New World monkeys have round nostrils set far apart.
Many people think that monkeys just eat bananas, but that is not true. Monkeys are omnivores. This means that they eat meat and plant-based foods. Most monkeys eat nuts, fruits, seeds and flowers. Some monkeys also eat meat in the form of bird's eggs, small lizards, insects and spiders. But sometimes, the monkeys at our backyard even munch on bread and that is all sorts of bread. They do not seem to be picky at all. Other than that, most monkeys live in trees, but there are some that live in savannas or mountain areas. Monkey tribes stay on the move to find food, so one location is not home for very long. As one troop leaves, another comes and this goes on and on endlessly as we are currently seeing the fifth troop if I am not mistaken. Only one or two chose to stay and gets along very well with the new troop
While many monkey species are not in danger, there are some that are very close to extinction. For instance, according to a research, there are only 150 Tonkin Snub-Nosed monkeys in existence. Another monkey on the list is the Tana River Red Colobus. There are fewer than 1,000 of these monkeys left in the world. Both are listed on the 25 Most Endangered Primates list published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature Species Survival Commission Primate Specialist Group.

Monkeys may seem dangerous at one point but once you get used to them and vice versa, I doubt there will anything for one to be afraid of them. Well that is of course if you do not pose any threat to them. 3 to 5 ingredient recipes for students who lives in hostel

I am student who lives in a hostel in Tanjung Malim, Perak while my family is back in Puchong, Selangor. I cannot go back and forth from class to home so it was high time that I had to stay in an out-of-campus hostel which means no proper food source. Living in Taman Bahtera, I have faced difficulties in getting three meals per day where I had to go to an extent of having one meal per day. It is even worse if the degree students are not around. Out of four food stalls, only one would be open. That also will only be opened in the afternoon. I could take a bus and go to Pintu Timur where more stalls are at but how long could one just survive on foods from stalls and not to forget on the costing of each meal. So, I decided to take this into my hands where I learned on how to cook on my own. If you are a student, living in a hostel and have been facing the same issues that I have been then here you go. Some simple recipes for you to cook at any time you would like to.
The first one would be mushroom curry. Now it may sound weird but trust me, it tastes better than the food you can get from the stalls as it is home cooked.

The ingredients (2 pax max)
1. A pack of any mushroom you prefer
2. Any brand of curry powder
3. 2 small onions finely sliced
4. 3 to 4 clover of garlics (according to your preference)
5. Salt to taste.

Firstly, wash the mushrooms and cut them into thin and long slices. After cutting, put them aside in a bowl that amounts up to the mushroom. Then, dice the garlics and slice up the onions and put them aside. Prepare a pan and heat it over a low medium heat. Once it gets heated, place your hand over the pan and count on how long you can stand the heat. If you can stand more than ten seconds then add oil into the pan. Then, add in the garlic, followed by onion into the pan. Fry them until the garlic turns into golden brown colour. Then add in the curry powder but not too much though as you do not want it to taste bitter. Mix them around well and add in some water. Set them to boil. Once the water starts boiling, add in the mushroom and let them cook for about 15 minutes. If the curry seems thick or tastes bitter then add in a little more water. Once they start to boil, add in a pinch of salt. Stir well and taste. If it seems tasteless then add in a little more salt and let it to boil for another 5 more minutes. Then you can off the stove and enjoy your mushroom curry with either rice or bread.
Another dish would be known as ‘Lempe’ if I’m not mistaken and it is a three ingredients dish.

Ingredients
All-purpose flour (As much as you prefer)
Warm water
Salt to taste

To start off with this dish, you will have to get a huge bowl that you can stir the mixture in. Then add in the all-purpose flour to the bowl. Add in a pinch of salt followed by some warm water. Pour the water little by little instead of pouring a whole lot of it. Stir as you pour the water so that you know when to stop. Mix until the mixture is not too watery and not too thick and feels just nice with no lump in it. Then heat the pan, add a little bit of oil and use a ladle to pour a spoonful of the mixture into the pan once it is heated. Turn them every 3 to 5 minutes so that you don’t burn them. Once you’re done frying, you can either serve them with condensed milk or have them with tea for tea break.

With two simple ingredients given, I hope it eases you one way or another. You can cook your own food now than to buy food from stalls.

A note to the little one!

Samyuktaa Vaishnavi, even her name is rare and beautiful just the way she is. Our cutest little angel she was and still is to date. I still could not seem to move on from the fact that she (my niece) is growing older day by day. Our small little Toms (her pet name), is growing inch by inch every other day. It feels like time flies too quick and that we have not had enough time to be spent with her as she is growing rapidly.

She took me by surprise right from day one, I did not expect to feel such a connection to her as I have had nieces and nephews before. If I am honest, I was a little worried that I would be a bit rubbish as an aunt by being not too interested in her in my life as she was just another addition in the family. But I began to realise that nothing could prepare me for what I felt for her as time went by. It was different to any connection I have had before. It was almost so crazy, when I held her for the first time I knew that I would do anything for her. Maybe this is what love, true love, really is – an instant, physical, visceral connection easily induced for one so little and helpless, and one who at some subconscious level I know is like one of my own.
In some ways I think it is quite selfish, driven by ego almost. I watched her, her character, willfulness and I saw me, a little Priya! I loved that, I love her spirit, her determination, her questioning and every little bit of her. I love the fact that she is happy being dressed as cinderella or any other princess! I love watching her with her little sister. It is an ace having one, there will no doubt be times when the Yakshitha (younger one) is a complete pain but I bet Toms will be doing a great job as a big sister, never doubt that just like Khavia does! If I were to tell her anything then I would definitely be saying this for her future reference so that she knows her aunts got her back always.
I. Never stop asking questions
As you get older, people tend to play this trick on you where they suggest asking questions is dumb because it “signifies” that you do not know something. I want you to know that it is okay, in fact it is more than okay to not know something and that is why you should never stop asking questions just like you have been asking me. People who pretend to have all the answers are just pretending and even your teachers will sometimes.
II. Have fun and play lots
Play with the dolls, babies and be girly for all that you want, but play with the lego, football and swords too. Dress up, pretend, make believe and discover. Play often and when you get older make time to play, life can be a lot of fun but sometimes it is easy to forget that if you work too hard. Do not take things too seriously as you will have a long way to go and you are too young to be taking things seriously.
III. Do not worry about what to do when you grow up
When I was growing up, people were always nagging me to decide what I wanted to be as a grown up, I never knew. Sometimes I wanted to be a swimmer, I never did any of those, and I am still not sure what to do when I grow up and I am four times older than you, so do not worry about it. You will make good decisions when they come along and I will always be here to guide you. .
IV. Last but not least, be friendly and love freely
This will probably seem a bit obvious. Life is much better if you are friendly, look out for people, share your friendship and love. As you get older you might find some people are not what you hoped they were, some people might let you down but do not take it personally. At some point, you will realize that it is not worth worrying about. The strange thing is if you worry too much, and try to protect yourself from being hurt, you miss out on so much in life like I did. Do not worry about being hurt, or losing friends, be friendly and kind and people will be good back. You will hear about lots of nasty and scary things in life but most people are good, and most things are positive as the proverb goes “What goes around, comes around”. So be genuine in giving love.

So there you go some thoughts from me as you grow older. You might not understand this now but you will smile seeing this one day knowing I always had your back.

A Field trip to the Raja Tun Uda Public Library

I have never been to public libraries before due to many unstated reasons. One of it mainly is due to lack of transportation facility somehow or rather. Being so, one day we students of class 6 Sastera 2 were given the opportunity by our class teacher to go to a public library located in Shah Alam which I have never heard of for an assignment purpose. It’s known as Raja Tun Uda Public Library or more commonly as Perpustakaan Raja Tun Uda. With full of enthusiasm, I surfed the web to get the gist on how the library looks and if it is worth going to. To my surprise, I was absolutely baffled by all the images that showed up in the search engines. I thought it was just a fake picture and let it go through as I did not want keep my expectations high.
The following week, it was our fieldtrip day and all of us were looking forward to going to the library. Upon arriving at the library, the entrance looked exactly how it was in the picture I saw. Slightly thrilled and excited, we entered the library. It was nothing much at the beginning as the entrance looked like a receptionist table at any office. We were allowed to visit the kids section on the right part of the library as we reached early. I was stunned to see it. That section was completely designed for kids with storybooks, board games, play station and many more. And then we were directed to the actual part of the library which was located on the left side. Man, I was out of words to describe what I was seeing right in front of me. Words will not live up to the description on how majestic that library looked.

The best I would say for it was complete with up to date gadgets and not to mention that 6D cinema. Besides the normal facilities typical of a library, one can also exercise here to get their body in shape. There are gyms with the latest equipment that one can use while they are there. Coin lockers are also provided for them to keep their bags while visiting the library. Computers with internet connection are also available for rent for RM1/hour. This library overlooks the lake which is located just next to the the building and provides a good view from the library.

As for the membership, residents of Selangor can apply for FREE membership using their MYKAD. Each member can borrow up to 3 books for 3 weeks. Renewal of the books can be done by phone after that provided no one has placed a booking for the books. Audio video CDs/DVDs can be borrowed if one joins as a member of the audio video section. The membership fee is RM20/year. One can borrow up to 3 CD/DVD for 3 weeks. Weekly activities are also carried out and visitors of any age could participate in them.

I fell in love with that library so much so that I would be spending my entire weekend over there if only I had a car. Had no heart to leave the library that made me feel like I was on a magical land throughout my trip there. We were quite sad that it the trip came to an end too quick.

The Time I was A Bridesmaid! >_<

It is a very common thing to have a bridesmaid and groomsman in a wedding. In an Indian traditional wedding, a bridesmaid will be the groom’s sister whereas the groomsman will the bride’s brother. In this case, I was chosen to be the bridesmaid for my cousin brother's wife-to-be. All the while when my aunt told me of it, I thought she was kidding but it was when we all went to get the wedding saree for the bride that I knew how serious they were about me being the bridesmaid. I was absolutely stunned. It’s not like I was given a choice or anything. Besides, in our culture, it is common for the elders to decide on behalf of us.

So I had to be the first to wake up since I have to go and fetch the bride to the hall and with a mere 3 hours of sleep, I was exhausted. My cousin sister took about 2 hours to get me ready from tying the saree and doing my make up and hair. And dad then sent me over to my cousin's house so that I could follow my cousin brother's friend to fetch the bride. It's a ritual like that a bridesmaid must follow to fetch the bride and we youngsters have not much words to say in this situation but to follow. Once reaching there, I was told to walk my then future sister-in-law to the car and so I did as I was told to. Then we headed to the hall where more rituals were done.

Before stepping into the hall, the bridesmaid will have to perform a simple ritual whereby the bridesmaid  will apply a 'Tilak' which is a distinctive spot of coloured powder or paste in red on to the bride's forehead. I have no idea on the specific reason of doing so but yes I did what I was told to. Thousands of pictures will be taken every step you take, from the moment you sit in the car till the end of the wedding.

Moving on, the bride and groom will be sitting separately on the alter to perform some rituals before they sit together. What is meant by separately is that, firstly, the groomsman will assist the groom to the alter. Then, the both of them will perform a ritual as the priest tells them to. Same goes to the bride and the bridesmaid.

Walking the bride to the alter! :3
Honestly saying, it is embarrassing to walk in front of hundreds of people all dolled up in  traditional attire! For an introvert like me, it's even worse! >_<

Last but no least, once I was done with the rituals, I was asked to wait near the alter by the priest. Moments before, my cousin brother tied the knot I was given a HEAVY oil lamp and was told to stand behind them holding it. I don't really remember the purpose as I was so frustrated being told to stand at the back before "THE MOMENT" but yeah.

Holding that HEAVY oil lamp!

And though it was a tiring day, I'd say I had a good experience and had fun doing all those things that I had only seen all this while.

What you can do during leisure time!

I often spend my leisure time watching television and surfing the web but recently, I found out there is much more that could be done during that period.  I believe the answer goes against what many of us have been taught about how to spend our free time. From early childhood we have been taught to divide everything to do into two groups, work and leisure. Work consists of all the things we need to do and leisure is everything else.  It can sometimes require planning.
To begin with, you can try replacing some low-energy task with a more engaging one. You can start by making a plan for it. Free time will only become useful to you if you have focused on how you would like to use it. Simply expecting free time to turn productive, creative, or fulfilling will not bring it about because you have not thought about the process needed to fill that time effectively. Your first realization should be that it is up to you to "do something" about making your free time work better for you as it is not going to come from somewhere or someone else, only from your choice to make it useful time.
Your second realization is to make up your own mind as to what you define as "useful". Relaxing, doing nothing, rejuvenating, and thinking are all "useful" activities if they lead to a better, more fulfilled life. Write down a list of the things you would like to be doing in your free time. You can rank it any way you like, or treat everything as equally important on it; that's up to you. Keep a journal about your life and include how you would like your life to be. Be sure to describe the activities you're trying out in your free time, so that you can evaluate whether or not they are worth continuing to do. Create a visualization board that sets out the ways in which you'd like to spend future free time.
Other than that, you can always volunteer. If you have already volunteered, you will be aware of the benefits it can bring. If you have enough free time to give of your time to others in need, this can be a very fulfilling way to give back to your community or society. And it would be even better if you get to choose what to volunteer in according to what you believe in, and what you think is most important. Search for volunteer opportunities through asking people you know who already volunteer, by searching online or in the volunteer pages, or asking people who work in places you would like to volunteer for. Whatever your level of experience, there is likely to be a volunteer opportunity for you and with time, you can build knowledge, expertise, and reputation through volunteering and find it becomes an incredibly fulfilling experience that helps many others.
Volunteer as much or as little as you like. You're giving up your free time for a worthy cause, so you should enjoy it. Even consider volunteering in different places at different times, to give yourself some variety in both experience and the people you meet.
The two things listed above was just mere idea of what could be done during leisure time as there are many other things that could be done as well. You can even google for ideas and there are limitless sources out there for you to find something to fill up your leisure time so get to it and start working today!

Facts about Diamonds that you may have not known!

Facts about Diamonds!
Diamonds are commonly known as girl’s best friend. Diamonds are forever, but did you know that, despite the fact we are told that diamonds are the hardest natural substance on earth, if you hit a diamond hard enough with a hammer, it will shatter into tiny pieces?  Diamonds were formed deep beneath the earth’s crust about billions of years ago and they are brought to the surface by volcanoes. They are made of pure carbon with just a few impurities that give some diamonds their colour. They are rare, beautiful, and they have been sought after and valued for thousands of years now. Here are several facts of diamonds that you may have not known :

I. Diamonds are found all around the world
Most people know about the diamond mines of South Africa and the giant DeBeers mining corporation, but diamonds are actually mined all around the world. The world’s first main source of diamonds was India and diamonds and some of the world’s most brilliant diamond’s now come from Botswana, Canada, Russia and Namibia.

II. Diamonds come in lots of different colours
The clear, or white, diamonds are the ones that most people are familiar with, but diamonds actually do come if a range of different colours. The colours are caused by tiny amounts of impurities in the stones and you can find diamonds in just about every colour that you could think of.

III. Diamonds are measured in carats
The diamond carat refers to the stones weight, unlike gold where carat refers to purity, and one carat is the equivalent of 200 milligrams. The reason that carats are used as a measure of weight for diamonds is that gem dealers used to balance their scales with carob beans, because carob beans all have the same weight.

IV. India is no longer the only source of diamonds
The countries that are the main sources of diamonds have changed over time. India was the world’s original source of diamonds, beginning in the 1400s when Indian diamonds began to be sold in Venice and other European trade centers. Then in the 1700s India’s diamond supplies declined and Brazil became the world’s major source of diamonds, until the late 1800s when a huge diamond reserve was discovered in South Africa.  Today, diamonds are mined in many parts of the world. All of Brilliant Earth’s diamonds originate from mines in Canada, Botswana, Namibia, and Russia.

V. The most mind-blowing diamond facts of all
Scientists have discovered a planet that they believe is composed mostly of carbon, and is one-third pure diamond!  Discovered in 2004, the planet orbits a nearby star in the Milky Way, and is named “55 Cancri e” which, in our opinion, is not a glamorous name for such an extraordinary planet. Perhaps even more amazing, scientists have discovered a star that is essentially a diamond of ten billion trillion carats.  They named the star Lucy after the Beatles song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”

With all the facts that I’m aware of stated above, here’s few websites you can get information on diamonds in detail.

TECHNIP's Annual Dinner @ Grand Lexis

The management at the office dad works in had arranged for an annual dinner at Grand Lexis Resort in Port Dickson for the entire Electrical Department staffs where everyone is allowed to bring their family. It was a 2 days and 1 night trip. Despite the short time, the four of us decided to have fun as much as we can like we always do.
As usual, dad drove us from our house to the destination. It took us several hours though to reach as we missed the road to the location. After long drive, we reached at the hotel where we have to register and will be given the key to our chalet. At the hotel lobby, dad gathered with his colleagues and introduced us. They were so friendly and the jovial type. Then, our ride was a golf cart that brought us straight to the doorstep of our chalet. I was so moved by their hospitality and excited too as it was my first time riding on a golf cart.

The fascinating part of it all was that, the chalet was built right above the sea. As we entered the chalet, I literally was jumping up and down in complete excitement. There was a solid glass panel on the floor in the middle of the room allowing us to view the sea below. The best part of all was that, each unit of the chalet came with A PRIVATE POOL! How cool does that sound? My brother and I were going crazy seeing it all. My brother and I changed quickly into our shirt and pants and got into the pool right away being the crazies we were.
Solid glass panel that allows us to SEE THE SEA! :p lol
My brother and I were BUSY! :D

We swam for hours and even before we knew it was evening already which means, IT'S DINNER TIME! So we got into our respective attires and waited for the cart to come and fetch us again. My dad's colleagues were all so wonderful and humble despite the positions they were in. I was much privileged to have met them all. They had door gifts, lucky draw and singing and dancing sessions along with tons of food. And after the dinner was over, we were so full that we could barely walk to the lobby. I think we would have crawled if we were to walk back to the chalet after all those good foods. Thank god there was a golf cart that brought us back safe and sound.

It was taken several years back! My baby brother is tall and skinny now! :(

Upon returning back to the room, my brother and I did not settle down! Instead, we went on a second round of swimming. We made use of it as much as we could so that we would not have any regrets when we leave the place!
It was past midnight and we were yet swimming as it’s a private pool and you will not be questioned. It was nearly 1.30 in the morning before my brother and I decided that we had enough of swimming. We were happy and exhausted at the same time. We went to bed around 2 a.m. after changing and were quite upset with the fact that we had to leave in the afternoon.
We got up at 7 a.m. for a buffet breakfast and again had a good eating time with the breakfast served by the hotel. At 12pm, we checked out of the hotel, saying bye to the place where we had built another bundles of memory.

Facts about Dolphins!

Dolphins are highly intelligent marine mammals and are part of the family of toothed whales that includes orcas and pilot whales. They are found worldwide, mostly in shallow seas of the continental shelves, and are carnivores, mostly eating fish and squid. Dolphin shade varies from one another, but they are generally gray in color with darker backs than the rest of their bodies. There are however facts about them that makes them one of the most beautiful creatures in the water.
I. Dolphins are well known for their agility and playful behavior, making them a favorite of wildlife watchers. Many species will leap out of the water, spy-hop (rise vertically out of the water to view their surroundings) and follow ships, often synchronizing their movements with one another. Scientists believe that dolphins conserve energy by swimming alongside ships, a practice known as bow-riding.
Dolphins live in social groups of five to several hundred. They use echolocation to find prey and often hunt together by surrounding a school of fish, trapping them and taking turns swimming through the school and catching fish. Dolphins will also follow seabirds, other whales and fishing boats to feed opportunistically on the fish they scare up or discard.

II. Unlike a fish, which moves its tale from side to side, a dolphin swims by moving its tale (made up of flukes) up and down. And a dolphin carries more oxygen in its blood than a fish and can swim longer than a fish. Hence, dolphins are better adapted to the sea than are any fish.

III. Dolphins don’t breathe automatically, rather it is always consciously done. An interesting consequence of the fact that they need to be conscious to control their breathing is that they can never be truly unconscious, even when they sleep.  However, being mammals, their brains do need to enter a type of unconscious state every now and again in order to continue to function properly.  How dolphins handle this is to put one half of their brain to sleep, while the other half is still conscious and functioning.  They then alternate which side is sleeping periodically.  They stay in this state for approximately eight hours a day.  Doing this allows them to be conscious enough to control their breathing and periodically swim to the surface and get air, while still giving their brain the rest it needs.

IV. “Killer Whales”, or Orcas, are actually dolphins.  In fact, they are the largest member of the dolphin family, Delphinidae. Now strictly speaking, whales are marine animals of the order of Cetacea and occasionally Cetacea is used to refer to not just whales, but also porpoises and dolphins.  However, it generally excludes these latter marine animals, which belong to the sub-order Odontoceti.  So, depending on who you talk to, dolphins, including the Orca, may be considered whales and dolphins or may be considered a separate marine animal from other whales.  But in either case, Orcas are one of the 35 species in the oceanic dolphin family, with its closest relative being the Irrawaddy dolphin.

All in all, I’d say that dolphins are one of the genuine creatures of waters. If you surf the web, there will be dozens of occasions where you’ll read news about them having helped humans in one way or another. Beautiful gentle ones they are indeed.

A trip to Cameron Highland

Dad had planned a short getaway for us to Cameron Highlands during Hari Raya holidays since it has been some time since the four of us went out together especially now that I’m pursuing my studies in UPSI while staying in hostel.  We spent 3 days and 2 nights in Cameron. Dad drove from our house to Cameron and it took us about 1 and half hour before we reached Tapah. The traffic flow was smooth as we left the house early in the morning around 5.45. As we stopped by at Tapah rest area to have our breakfast, dad told us that my eldest cousin brother and his family would be joining us but they will be coming on a 2 days 1 night trip only. My brother and I were so eager to hear that as it would be double the fun for us as our nephews will be there too and so we continued our journey to the Highland on road.

And we're of to Cameron! :D

I slept through the remaining journey to the top and woke up to a breath-taking view when we reached at the Bharat Tea Plantation. Despite having been there three times previously, that view still made my day. Been there thrice, yet we never actually tried walking down along the plantation so we decided to give it a try this time. The entrance was free back then but now, they charge RM2 per person. Children of specific age group are allowed in for free though. The view as you walk down the plantation was remarkable as we got to see different types of plants and birds chirping on nearby trees. There were even pathways for four-wheel drive but it is strictly for the plantation workers only for them to transport the tea leaves in and out of the place.

The view of the Tea Plantation

After exploring the tea plantation, we had lunch at a nearby vegetarian restaurant and then headed to check into our respective hotels to take rest before we head to the night market nearby where we can get strawberries and vegetables for reasonable price. Around 6.30pm, we met at the market and by that time, the cars were caught in a massive traffic as more people were coming in from all over the states as it was a holiday season. The market was so crowded that you can find people of all ethnicities, not to forget that Cameron is also one of the most popular tourism places in Malaysia. We walked around the market surveying things being sold this time around. My cousin brother bought vegetables though as they will be leaving the next day. We however went on a food hunt and ended up buying ‘Nasi Lemak Cameron’, Nasi Tomato’ and deep fried vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and so on so forth. It was like a mini food fiesta in our hotel room.

The next morning, we got up early and went to the Cameron Lavender Garden after having our breakfast at a nearby mamak restaurant. It was so beautiful that I can’t seem to find words to describe it. As we went on the path, there were more flowers than just lavenders. They even had a small strawberry farm where you can pluck your own strawberries but not for free of course. Two people can go in for RM15 and once you are done plucking the strawberries, you will have to make the payment at the counter located before the exit of the strawberry farm. It was so much fun that my mom and I, we plucked about 20 huge strawberries and the experience was so much worth the money. Almost a day went just like that in a blink of an eye and my cousin brother and his family left around 4 after lunch. We then returned to our room around 5pm to freshen up before we head to the night market again. This time, I got myself a huge cotton candy in blue that I had my eyes on ever since I noticed it. It was freshly made and the smell was heavenly. We bought a bit of vegetables. Speaking of vegetables, you can get varieties of it worth the money. Say about seven vegetables for RM10 ONLY!!!! Exhausted, we decided to sleep in longer the next day.

Can't deny the fact that we were good as a team at finding huge strawberries! XD

The last but not the least thing we ever did in the morning the next day was to go for a huge roadside morning market. It is about half an hour drive to 45 minutes’ drive to that place and it is situated by the road. The price there was even cheaper than the night market. We again didn’t miss the chance of buying sweet corns, sweet potatoes and many more. Being the typical tourist that I am, I bought a t-shirt as a souvenir for myself and some key chains for my brother and mother. My dad said he didn’t want anything though as he was not feeling well as he got wet in the rain. And so we left Cameron after creating memory lanes to look back at once again.

A trip to Redang! :D

On 28 April to 1 May 2004, my family and I had a family vacation to Redang Island which is located in Terengganu, Malaysia. We had very joyful and memorable moments there. Redang Island is one of many islands in the waters of Terengganu. Among other attractions to Redang is Redang Marine Park which is located near Redang Island. We departed to Redang Island on ferry from Shahbandar jetty by taking a ferry at 9.00 a.m.

We took 3D2N package from Redang Pelangi Resort which we found had a reasonable price and was worth the money for our trip. There are many other packages offered by other resort operators and travel agents ranging from medium range to high luxury package. Of course the price will be higher for the higher luxury package. Our sail took about 1 and a half hour along the beautiful Terengganu water and passing by several islands on our way to Redang Islang.

Redang Pelangi and most of resorts in Redang Island are located in the seashore of Pasir panjang. There is no ferry jetty in Pasir Panjang, so we had to carry our luggage to a nearby floating platform which is on the beach and is connected to the shore. Upon arriving, we have our ground transport ready to move us from the beach to resort. The transport is actually a wagon attached to a tractor. It was very thrilling experience as we walked along the beach.

The check in process was smooth, the receptionist asked for the deposit payment slips. Luckily dad had the slip printed out with him. Mobile phone line got a problem on our arrival that day. We were given a quad sharing room near the canteen and near the beach. Lunch was served on 12 noon. The lunch served was variety of local foods. It is absolutely worth the money spent on the package. After filling ourselves, we took some rest and waited for the first snorkeling trip. We rented the life jacket and snorkeling gears from the resort for RM20.00 per set (life jacket - RM10.00, snorkeling gear- RM10.00). The boat was parked in the water. The beach boys were very kind and helpful as they help us to go from the shore to the boat located far from the shore. One of the main attraction in checking in to Redang Pelangi is that their beach boys which are reportedly to be kind, helpful and very supportive.

Our journey to the open sea snorkeling area took about 15 minutes. Arriving near an isolated rock island, I felt the adrenaline to jump in the sea and start snorkeling. It was a very beautiful and magnificent underwater scene in the area. The fishes, the corals, the clear water it was very beautiful. Returning form the first trip, we rushed over to the canteen and had our evening tea with a local food called 'jemput-jemput'. The canteen was built to cater dry and wet occupants. There is  no restriction to enter the canteen in wet clothes. Done eating , we headed over to the beach in front of the resort to continue our snorkeling and water fun activity. Yet the beach alone is very beautiful and got a full load of fishes and corals underwater. We started the second day with a trip to marine park. This is the most awaited moment for every person coming to Redang Island. Our journey took about 30 minutes from the resort to Marine Park.

We were briefed on the do's and don'ts in marine park which we are not allowed to bring things back with us, we cannot step on the corals, we cannot swim outside the free boat area and we are not allowed to catch the baby turtles. The marine park was like an underwater paradise. The water is so clear and the underwater living creatures were very beautiful. We fed the fishes with a couple of bread slices, my brother was so delighted to see the fishes gathered around us to eat the bread slices. On approximately 11.30 a.m we were called to board the boat returning to the Resort. On the jetty, we had seen a miraculous show by a school of fishes swimming under the jetty and sometime jumped over the water. There were so many of them, they were like a grass on the field.

On the evening we were supposed to have another open sea snorkeling trip but we were too tired to get up from the beds so we ended up sleeping and then snorkeling in the beach in front of the resort. This time I braved myself to explore the sea further away from the beach but I found out that fishes were gathered around the coral and reefs which is located not too far away from the beach. The reefs were a kind of very with a small cave like hole below the reefs.

On the next morning, we took another last beach activity before checking out. We could see smaller fishes swimming around us finding for foods. My family had a very fun time in the water that morning as the tide is low and the waves were calm. We checked out on 10.00 am and transferred to the ferry arrival area using the tractor pulled wagon. Our ferry arrived at 11.00 am and the journey ended in Shahbandar jetty at 12.00 noon.  We are so grateful to the beach boys and the staffs working at the resort who have helped us a lot throughout our trip in Redang. It is definitely a place worth of vacation.

A short getaway to Pulau Besar!

We went to Pulau Besar with our cousins somewhere in 2012. We traveled from Puchong to Melaka by car with guidance of my cousin brother.  You can go to Anjung Batu Jetty at Melaka Raya to take ferry. It will cost only RM 14. For more details you can visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulau_Besar_(Malacca).

It takes only about 5 – 10 mins to reach the island. Ya, I forgot to mention, Pulau Besar is a small Island in Melaka, Malaysia. We took a van upon reaching the island and reached the Tomb of Sheikh Ismail in less than 5 mins. From there we walked to almshouse called Wakaf Sultan Arrifin which is located few meter from the tomb. And all these places located exactly at seashore. Just in few steps you can steep your feet into the sea.

You can stay at almshouse for free. No bed or air condition. Fans and lights will be turn on at 7pm. They will provide you breakfast, lunch, tea break and Dinner. All for free and unconditional.  All you need to do is, just wake up at proper lunch time, dinner time and breakfast. However we donate RM 50 each for courtesy. Or you can stay in your own camp or you can rental from any camp providers in surrounding area. There is nice chalet also there. I saw only one resort providing the chalet facilities. D’Puteri Kurnia Resort.  Lot of small stalls and restaurants in surrounding area but the food provided by the almshouse are most delicious. Don’t expect varieties. It is very simple foods. Morning we ate fried mee, lunch we have no idea as we reached there after lunch and leave the place before lunch. Dinner just a bowl of rice with 1 piece of mutton curry and it was so tasty. The almshouse is maintained by some Indian Muslims who settled in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. That's what we have been told. After few minutes of rest at almshouse, my family and I walked along the seashore and in jungles till 7pm (i guess) and there after I took my bath at the public toilet cum bathroom. I found  there is 2 public toilets. One is near Mosque and Tomb and another one is at almshouse. Both are very clean. You have to pay RM 1 for bath.

After our dinner, we went to a very quiet and nice place with small and long wall which located exactly at seashore. We sat over there and turned on music where we enjoyed singing and gaving a good laugh together. We sat there until 12am before heading to the almshouse. At night, we all fhad problems in sleeping as there were too many mosquitoes. I especially got up every hour. Finally I got up at 5am and after my bath I went to a rock under a big tree at seashore. I lay on the rock and simply listening to birds sound and sea wave until 8am.

Pulau Besar is definitely a great place for jungle tracking. I don't know why Tourism Malaysia never promote this site. However if it is visited by thousand traveler and pilgrimages, definitely the beauty of nature and silence of the jungle will lost in human crowd and rubbish. Pulau Besar also a great place for camp fire and meditation. All the spiritual places I visited previously is purely spiritual but this one surrounded with undisturbed nature, birds sounds and sound of sea wave. This land can awaken your “nature”. I returned to my homeland with full of joy, unconditional love, forgiveness, humbleness. It was a fun time we had in Pulau Besar though mostly, we visited the tombs.
